Hi Glenda,
My mom was given Fosamax for osteoporosis as well. In her case it didn't give her additional pain (which she already had due to arthritis), but it made her so nauseous she couldn't eat. As soon as she went off it she felt better. The doctors then tried Actonel, which is similar to Fosamax but you only take it once a week. Fortunately it has worked fine, and doesn't seem to be giving her bad side effects.

As a matter of fact, I too was diagnosed with borderline osteoporosis and have been taking Actonel for the past year. I recently went for another bone density scan and will learn the results tomorrow. Hopefully it's working! The one thing I'm noticing is that I have some joint stiffness in my hands, which the small print says could be a side effect of Actonel. I guess it's always a trade-off....

Cheers,
Avril
