Top 10 Most Engaging Posts of 2009

Filed under: Blogging,Social Media — by at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, January 19, 2010

According to PostRank Analytics – a system for analyzing and scoring engagement events, social engagement refers to “the attention other people pay to your published content, like blog posts, news and articles. They see and read a post, and then because it’s interesting, inspiring, or controversial, they get “hooked” and decide to take further action.”

PostRank’s scoring system measures the “5 C’s” of engagement:

  • Creating: i.e. writing a blog post
  • Critiquing: i.e. leaving a blog comment
  • Chatting: i.e sharing and discussing information on Twitter
  • Collecting: i.e. submitting a post to Stumbleupon
  • Clicking:i.e. clicking a link to read a blog post

The more engagement an event requires (i.e. writing a blog post), the more engagement points the event receives. Bloggers can use their posts’ engagement scores as a measurement of how well their readers are reacting to and engaging with their content.

PostRank crunched the numbers to determine the most engaged readers in 2009. And the results are in…!

The detailed analysis is available from PostRank. The top 10 engaging posts are:

I will continue creating, if you continue critiquing, chatting, collecting and clicking. Together, let’s see how engaged we can be in 2010!

Congrats on the #6 ranking, Glenda. Your blog is always ‘engaging’ – and I only wish I had more time to comment regularly and more often.

As I was reading this post, my wife peeked over my shoulder – and I told her about you (just like I’ve told many other people about you).

PostRank can’t measure THAT – but ‘word of mouth’ endorsements are probably an even more powerful vote on how engaged your readers are… with YOU 🙂

Keep blogging, and I’ll keep chatting, clicking and crowd-pulling for you!

All success

Dr. Mani is right about word of mouth engagement. I often forward your posts to some of Rylan’s therapists, teachers and of course friends.

Congratulations, Glenda. 🙂

One of the coolest results of the Top Blogs project for us has been seeing the community engagement that’s resulted — the level of heart-felt congratulations, discussions of highlights of the year, etc.

We don’t usually hear a whole lot from folks unless something’s broken, so it’s great to see the people behind the sites in our system coming out of the woodwork, and also to see them discovering great new contacts and new blogs to read that they hadn’t known about.

Interesting. Wonder how this compares to other ranking programs and systems. Technorati, for instance.

I’d love to see you take this the next step and compare your top topics with those of the others in your category, to see if you covered similar or different topics and how things compare in general.

Over all, when you compare with others in your category, it’s a chance to find new friends and establish new relationships with those who blog like you. That’s the part I enjoy.

Thanks Lorelle! There is a weekly leader ranking, like the Billboard Top 100 for Blogs. Do It Myself Blog is currently ranked #2 in Disability!

At the moment, I’m more taken by these stats than by, say, Technorati because they show what readers are doing other than stopping by. And readers can see that leaving a comment or tweeting does have an impact. To me, it’s more a measure of community.
